Instant Artwork

Sometimes fine art is not an option when you are still trying to stretch your home furnishings budget to include enough seating for more than three people in your living room, so I am always looking for creative ways to decorate our apartment. While I was wandering around Ben Franklin craft store with a friend, inspiration struck as soon as I saw the lovely Amy Butler fabrics on the scrap shelf.

For just a few dollars, I got three cheerful fabrics and then scored three 5×5 inch art canvases on sale a week or two later. I wrapped the fabric around the canvas, stapled the back, and, voilà, a new set of artwork for around eight dollars!

The back may not be pretty, but that's okay.

First-time Fan Jitters

Design Sponge Seattle

me with Grace Bonney

Meeting Grace Bonney at Anthropologie in Seattle was a huge thrill! I got to go to the book signing part of the Design Sponge Book Tour, and I was very nervous as I stepped into the second place in line. Having no idea what to say, I rambled on about the dresser that I had painted and how her blog had inspired me.

I have never gotten all starry-eyed about a celebrity before, but after meeting Grace and having her sign my book, I was ecstatic. The high lasted for hours. Yes, it was a bit ridiculous, but I don’t care.

Now I know what it’s like to be a fan.
